Once a month those in need in the St. Clair County area can make an appointment to receive assistance with power, gas, water and sewer bills. Appointments are made by phone for an in office meeting that same week. There are a limited amount of appointments available and once a member of the community has received assistance they are ineligible to receive utility help from Beacon of Pell City for 12 months.
Those needing assistance will need to provide the overdue bill, photo id, proof of income for everyone in the household, names and social security numbers for everyone in the household, and proof of food stamps or other assistance. All interviews are done face-to-face.
Outreach was begun as a full-time ministry of First United Methodist of Pell City. Currently, it is estimated that over $24,000 will be the amount of assistance dispersed directly to the utility companies onto the accounts of those in need in 2024 by Beacon of Pell City. We depend on donations of all kinds as well as volunteers to help with appointments/interviews of those in need. If you or someone you know needs assistance, you can call 205-338-3375 on the first Monday of the month between the hours of 9 and noon for a possible appointment that week.
