Ramp Building

Before being a part of Beacon of Pell City non-profit, a group of hearty volunteers from First United Methodist Church in Pell City completed 45 ramps in the Pell City area over the course of several years. These ramps are located on the outside of residences to assist individuals in going in and out in a safe and dignified manner. Now that these projects have been curated by Beacon of Pell City, this endeavor has now seen over 50 ramps built in total. Some of the volunteers are retired engineers, some are builders or carpenters, some are just willing to work hard. But they all contribute to over 80 volunteer hours per ramp with up to 30 miles of travel time. Donations from individuals, grants, buisinesses and area churches help with the approximate $1500 expense of each ramp.
